We would like to familiarize you with our company. Raymond Excavating Company has been in the earthwork and underground utility business for over 50 years. We are a privately owned corporation led by the founder, Raymond Burgess; Michael R. Burgess, President and David Burgess, Vice President.
We have been a Michigan Department of Transportation prequalified contractor for over 30 years.
Some of our major contracts have been with the State of Michigan, St. Clair county, Macomb Township, City of Port Huron, City of Marysville, Marysville Ethanol LLC, and Marysville Hydrocarbons and several other municipalities. We have also worked with the U.S. Corps of Engineers, private developers and industrial firms.
Raymond Excavating can provide a wide range of various sizes and models of track excavators, dozers, rubber tired loaders, tractor backhoes, lifting cranes and tractor/trailers for your project.
The end result is we can put together a trained, competent, skilled group of employees with well-maintained equipment to respond to your needs. Our employees are members of the operators and laborers unions.

Michael R. Burgess, President
Mike Burgess, President
Mike is a graduate of Michigan State University with a B.A. in business administration. Mike started with the company by working as a laborer and upon graduation from MSU became a full-time employee. Job responsibilities include management of office and employees, estimating, equipment purchases and overseeing all projects.
Mike also serves as Safety Officer and Equal Opportunity Officer. In these capacities he authored the Corporate Policies and Procedures and Employee Manual.
David Burgess, Vice-President/Superintendent
David Burgess is a high school graduate with 1 1/2 years of business related courses at St. Clair County Community College. Dave has worked in the underground construction business for over 30 years. The last 20 years he has worked in the owner/supervisory capacity. Dave owned and operated Target Contracting for eight years doing sewer, water, site work and road building.
Dave's duties include submitting work schedules to owners, working with field inspectors, problem solving in the field, assure all material and supplies are on the job site and final measure projects.
Special training includes MIOSHA Seminars, Construction Safety classes and several construction related seminars.
Gary S. Coaster, P.E., Estimator/Construction Manager
Gary Coaster has been with Raymond Excavating since 1986. Gary is a graduate of Michigan Technological University with a B.S. in Civil Engineering. His responsibilities include estimating and coordinating projects - Sewer and Watermain construction, Roadwork, MDOT Projects, Environmental Remediation.
Gary has over 30 years experience and is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Michigan. He has special training in Construction Safety, Certified CPR and First Aid, MIOSHA Standards Seminars and several other seminars relating to the construction business.
Sam Schrieber, Superintendent
Sam has been with Raymond Excavating since 1991. He has over 25 years experience in underground, sewer, water and road work. His current position involves working with inspectors, scheduling employees and problem solving in the field. Sam is certified in Confined Space, CPR and First Aid.
